Fields of Activities Thermal Power Plants

Meeting future demand: as load grows and interconnections between systems further develop, the required transmission and distribution capability must develop to meet the global system capability.

ELC has acquired an impressive experience in
Least Cost Planning of complex interconnected systems.

Forecasting: the serv ices rendered in this field of expertise include load forecasting, load flow, short circuit, reliability and env ironmental studies for both High Voltage and Distribution Networks.

The transmission facilities must combine with the
power system in such a way that generating capacity at distant parts of the system may be made available and distributed to any load.

They deeply influence both cost and reliability of the energy delivered by the system.

Transmission Interconnections

Transmission interconnections of adequate
capacity between separate power systems make it possible the integrated operation of these systems.

They permit the use of generators of large ratings, which can supply energy at low cost.

These interconnections allow the base loading of the most efficient generators and the economic dispatch of the system capacity.

In the event of generation outages (scheduled or for emergency), adequate transmission makes available alternative sources of generation, thus minimizing the amount of reserve generating capacity required to guarantee the energy delivery Service.

Transmission Lines optimization

The past years have seen major improvements in the design of towers and in the optimization of structures and conductors as a single mechanical system. The optimization of transmission lines inv olv es the simultaneous consideration of all the major cost factors, i.e. :

• Conductor size, type and tension
